Who is Flash Gordon?
I found my calling early in life, thanks largely to my dad (now 94) who was a photographer and a true media pioneer, and I picked up the Flash Gordon nickname in high school when I was shooting photos for the local newspaper. In college I majored in Comm Media - a program my own father had started at IUP back in the 50's. That lead to a corporate job in Arizona, and a few years later I started my own production company. Over 15 years, that company grew to include dozens of wildly talented staff and was ranked in the Top 10% nationally.
About the same time that I started my company, I met Bari, the love of my life, at a church group in Tucson. We got married, built the house of our dreams and started raising our family. Life was good. But as we looked forward to the arrival of our fourth son, a routine test uncovered an anomaly, and five days later he was gone. Shortly after that, the perfect storm of bad decisions and changes in the marketplace crashed my business, and I had to layoff all of those wildly talented staff. Life had become very difficult.
We learned that things don't always go according to our plan, but faith, family and friends got us through. I started over as a photographer, and gradually built a business that has taken me out on Club trips from Hawaii to Portugal, behind the scenes at the Phoenix ComiCon for thousands of celebrity photo-opps, and onto the floor of the NYSE to cover an IPO.
Bari and I have been married for 32 years now, with six boys, one girl and our heavenly son, Peter. Every month or so, I honor Peter's memory by volunteering for an infant bereavement photo session with Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep which is almost always heartbreaking, but so very worthwhile. Life in 2020 has become difficult again, and while we don't know what lies ahead, we trust that faith, family and friends will see us through.
